International Examination

　English Proficiency Requirements　　　Document Screening and English Interview　

The International Examination is designed for applicants who have completed a 12-year school education program, either in Japan or abroad. Through document screening and an English interview, we assess whether applicants possess a broad foundation of academic knowledge and meet a certain standard of English proficiency. We also evaluate their motivation to learn based on their statement of purpose and other materials.

Applicants must be able to commit to enrolling if admitted and must hold an English proficiency certification equivalent to Eiken Pre-1 or higher.
However, if you have received instruction in English for at least three consecutive years, including your final year of secondary education, and have graduated (or are expected to graduate), you may submit documentation proving this in lieu of an English proficiency certification. For details, please refer to the latest Admission Guide.

You may not apply concurrently for the AIU’s School Recommendation Entrance Examination or Gap Year Entrance Examination, which are held on the same day. If you are applying to other universities, please ensure that your application does not violate those institutions’ admission rules regarding single or concurrent applications.

The Admission Guide for the International Exam for 2027 enrollment will be announced in July 2026.

Application Procedure and Forms

Application Procedure

The completed documents must arrive at AIU by the close of the last day of the application period. Please write on the envelope in red: “Applicant Materials for International Student Enclosed.” Send the documents to AIU by registered, special delivery mail. Overseas posts must also be registered and sent by air. Regarding the application procedure, please follow the instructions for “Online Application Procedure” on the Admission Guide.

After registering your application information on the online application website and paying the application fee, please print out the following application form and mail it with the other required documents.
