Tuition Fee Revision (Applicable to Students Enrolling from April 2027)

Since its establishment, AIU has provided a globally integrated living-learning campus environment defined by unique characteristics such as all-English instruction in small classes, mandatory first-year dormitory residence, a one-year study abroad requirement, and a library open 24 hours a day, all supported by faculty and staff committed to attentive, individualized instruction and care for to each student. However, rapid increases in energy costs and general prices in Japan and around the world have led to significant increases to the university’s operating expenses.

In order to sustain and further develop AIU’s defining characteristics and our high quality of education in the future, we have decided to increase the annual tuition fee for both undergraduate and graduate students from the current ¥696,000 to ¥896,000. This revision will take effect for students enrolling from April 2027 onward and will not apply to current students or to those entering in 2026.

It has been 15 years since AIU last increased tuition in 2012. During the intervening years, we have absorbed the impact of inflation, currency fluctuations, and increased personnel costs through internal efficiencies and careful financial management. However, given that these broader societal trends are expected to continue, we have reached the conclusion that this revision is necessary.

Going forward, AIU will continue to advance its distinctive “Applied Liberal Arts Education” curriculum, through which students develop “Integrated Knowledge” and “Human Capability” by expanding opportunities for students and faculty to engage in collaborative research, building an environment that supports AI-driven human creation, and enhancing educational and research services, including expanding graduate school pathways and further promote strategic partnerships with universities and graduate schools, both within Japan and abroad. We sincerely appreciate your understanding.
